A new report released by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) outlines the specific challenges faced by women migrant workers, who routinely and disproportionately face human rights abuses, including harassment, sexual assault, exploitation, and discrimination, both during the migration process and while working in the destination location. The document highlights the actions of the IOM to empower female migrants and advocate for increased protection of their human rights.
The report outlines legal measures that could improve upon the safety of migration for women; promotes policy measures that, if implemented, would govern recruitment of female migrant workers; addresses the human rights abuses women migrants face and addresses how to protect these rights; describes how to create mechanisms for protecting survivors of violence; discusses reintegrating projects for returning migrants; and promotes the incorporation of a gender perspective into national and transnational legislation regarding migration.
