In Peshawar’s High Court, Uzma Ayub, 16, testified that she was abducted and repeatedly raped by various men for almost a full year. When talking to reporters just outside the courtroom, she said she was taken from her house by local police officers on October 9, 2010. The officers transferred her to other men, including local residents. After the transfer, one of her captors asked her to marry him. When she refused and demanded her release, she was repeatedly raped by the man who proposed, as well as other men and police officers.
Her mother reported her daughter missing shortly after she was kidnapped, but the effort was fruitless. Ayub escaped on September 19, 2011. Ayub said her main goal is to bring the men that abducted and raped her to trial. “I just want justice and I must be given justice,” she said.
In addition to the trial, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Amir Haidar Hoti, appointed a three member committee to investigate and present its findings within the week.
