A Pakistani women’s rights group, the Aurat Foundation (AF), reported a rise in the level of violence against women (VAW). According to the AF, there were 4,448 reports of VAW in Pakistan in the first six months of 2011, 387 more cases than in the first half of 2010.

Of these cases, there have been 1,100 kidnappings and 799 murders. While the level of VAW increases, most perpetrators of these crimes evade punishment.
