The Inter-American Court for Human Rights is set to hear a case on the death of Celia Ramos due to the government’s forced sterilization campaign towards indigenous women in the 1990s.  After 28 years of government impunity, this hearing starting on May 22, 2025 will be the first case seeking justice on the forced sterilization campaign by the Peruvian government to reach the Inter-American Court. This case will be representative of thousands of women who were forcibly sterilized and could establish a precedent for reparations for all the women and their families that suffered due to the sterilization policy.
