Russian authorities have arrested at least 10 publishing professionals in Moscow on charges of "extremism" for distributing LGBTI-themed literature, in a growing campaign against LGBTI communities. The charges relate to the alleged distribution of over 900 copies of books, none of which are officially banned. Amnesty International condemned the arrests as an alarming misuse of state power and called for the immediate release of those detained. This crackdown follows a 2023 Supreme Court decision labeling the "International LGBT Movement" as extremist, which has since enabled widespread persecution. If convicted, the publishers face up to 12 years in prison.
