A new Amnesty International report revealed that Kenyan women who are domestic workers in Saudi Arabia face extreme exploitation, including excessive work hours, withheld wages, physical and sexual abuse, and rampant racism. Despite some labor reforms, they remain excluded from legal protections, trapped under the restrictive kafala sponsorship system that fuels abuse and isolation. For the systematic abuse to be addressed, Amnesty calls on Saudi and Kenyan authorities to strengthen protections, regulate recruitment, and provide urgent support for vulnerable workers enduring harsh conditions and discrimination.
