The UN Secretary-General has issued a report on conflict-related sexual violence. Consultants for the report were the network of The United Nations Action against Sexual Violence in Conflict, United Nations field missions and country teams, NGOs, and concerned Member States. The primary sources of the report were the United Nations peacekeeping and political missions, as well as UN country teams.
The report includes an updated progress report of the analysis and reporting arrangements, monitoring, and the placement of women’s protection advisors. It also supplies information on those parties that are justifiably suspected of committing or being responsible for acts of rape or other forms of violence. Political engagements of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict and the Team of Experts on the Rule of Law and Sexual Violence in Conflict and major outcomes of missions are highlighted, as well as key initiatives taken by the United Nations in response to conflict-related sexual violence. Finally, the report offers recommendations for strengthening efforts to fight against these crimes.
