South Sudan: 3 Years, No Justice for Wartime Abuses

Three years after brutal attacks in Southern Unity, South Sudan has failed to deliver justice for mass atrocities committed by government forces and allied militias in 2022. The violence led to over 170 civilian deaths, widespread sexual violence, and the displacement of tens of thousands. Although a commission of inquiry was formed and some officials dismissed, no prosecutions have occurred, and findings remain secret. Human Rights Watch calls for meaningful accountability, including the urgent establishment of the African Union–South Sudan Hybrid Court.
