Sudan: Grave Violations Against Women and Girls in North Darfur
Tuesday, September 23, 2025 1:55 PM
For over 500 days, women and girls in El Fasher, North Darfur, have endured a devastating siege marked by starvation used as a weapon of war, indiscriminate bombardment, and widespread sexual violence. Health and educational facilities have been destroyed, leaving pregnant women and survivors of rape without care. Conflict-related sexual violence and deliberate starvation constitute grave breaches of international law. Women-led organizations, despite scarce resources, remain at the forefront of survival efforts and require urgent support. UN Women condemns these violations, calling for an immediate ceasefire, protection of civilians, safe humanitarian access, and implementation of Security Council Resolution 2736 (2024). The suffering of women and girls in El Fasher demands urgent global action, every day of delay costs their lives.
