In July 2008, the Swedish government adopted a plan to combat human trafficking and prostitution in Sweden. The Action Plan identifies five key areas necessary for the eradication of prostitution and trafficking including “greater protection and support for those at risk, more emphasis on preventive work, higher standards and greater efficiency in the justice system, increased national and international cooperation, and greater knowledge and awareness.” (Government Offices of Sweden)
In October 2009, the government released a new report titled, "Against Prostitution and human trafficking for sexual purposes," detailing the progress of its actions against trafficking and prostitution, as well as its future plans.
