On the 16th of May, UN Women released a statement on the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia. The statement highlighted how the LGBTQ+ community continues to face violence and discrimination. In the 30-year anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, UN Women remarks that there is still much progress to be made in protecting the rights of all people in the aim to achieve gender equality. They further announced that the theme for 2025 is "the power of communities," recognizing the importance of solidarity and diversity to achieve full gender equality.
