UNIFEM, part of UN Women, has released an introductory brief on formulating National Action Plans (NAPs) from its Ending Violence Against Women Section. The goal of the brief is “to provide guidance based on promising practice and emerging priorities, in support of evidence-based, effective policy development” that will help to eliminate violence against women and girls.

NAPs involve an all-encompassing plan that involves multifaceted approaches specific to the needs of a particular government. Though experts consider NAPs to be inherently good practice, there has not yet been much assessment or systemization of specific countries’ NAPs experiences. The brief sets forth key issues and considerations necessary in the formulation of a NAP.
