According to a study published January 24th in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, researchers estimate that over 65,000 pregnancies resulting from rape have occurred in the past four to 18 months in US states that have banned abortion.  The researchers, from Planned Parenthood, Resound Research for Reproductive Health, and various academic institutions, gleaned the data from federal surveys on crime and sexual violence. The journal's editors write that "Restricting abortion access to survivors of rape can have particularly devastating consequences...," including undergoing illegal abortions or traveling long distances to get legal abortion services.
