In Venezuela, gender-based violence continues to claim lives at an alarming rate. Between July and August, El Pitazo documented at least 13 femicides, most of them committed by men who had a romantic relationship with the victims. Testimonies like that of Carmen Alicia, a survivor of domestic abuse, reveal recurring patterns of control, manipulation, and violence.
According to the NGO Utopix, at least 61 women were killed in femicide cases during the first five months of 2025, reflecting a concerning undercount. The persistence of these crimes underscores the lack of effective policies for prevention and protection against gender-based violence in Venezuela.
