New Report Examines International Courts' Decisions on Important Cases of Violence Against Women

A new report, “Summaries of Jurisprudence: Gender-based Violence,” has been released by the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL).

The report provides jurisprudential research on the judgments, reports, and decisions of selected paradigmatic cases which generated a significant response from international human rights organs. The report is part of CEJIL’s ‘Tools For Protection of Human Rights’ series, which aims to provide human rights defenders with resources on the standards of national and international jurisprudence. The report highlights the persistence of gender-based violence around the world and decisions made by various human rights systems to protect women victims of violence. The cases selected involve decisions made by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, the European Court of Human Rights, the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, and various International Tribunals such as the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and the Special Court for Sierra Leone.
