The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a declaration last month to increase support and cooperation with the government of Azerbaijan to prevent and combat human trafficking. Major planned activities include public awareness campaigns and the provision of “technical assistance and financial support to civil society organizations operating shelters for female, male and child victims of human trafficking and forced labour.”

The government of Azerbaijan approved the OSCE-USAID proposal in June. The OSCE said the agreement, which authorizes more than $600,000 for the OSCE Project Coordinator’s office in Baku, will “substantially increase our support to the Azerbaijani Government’s efforts to tackle human trafficking.”
