United States: International Violence Against Women Act Reintroduced in Congress

Thirty-six members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives have reintroduced the International Violence Against Women Act (IVAWA) in honor of International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, 2015. The purpose of the two companion bills, S. 713 and H.R. 1340, is to make ending discrimination and violence against women and girls a top diplomatic priority for the United States. IVAWA was first introduced in the U.S. Congress in 2010.
