Amnesty International's Guide to the Human Rights Council
Thursday, May 4, 2006 9:45 AM

Amnesty International has created a guide of brief summaries for potential members of the new UN Human Rights Council. The elections for this council will take place on 9 May 2006.  An absolute majority is required for each 47 members to secure a seat on the Human Rights Council. The summaries for each country contain information about their current human rights situation and also include the country's record of ratifying key human rights treaties, timely submission of reports, and the extension of a standing invitation to the Special Procedures.
