Tuesday, June 16, 2009 1:10 PM

The United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDAW/DESA) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) convened an expert group meeting on May 25-28, 2009 at the United Nations in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on good practices in legislation to address harmful practices against women.

The expert group meeting followed up on an expert group meeting held in May 2008 in Vienna on good practices in legislation on violence against women. Members of that meeting produced a model framework for legislation on violence against women, including recommendations, commentaries and examples of good practices in legislation on violence against women. The May 2009 meeting in Ethiopia continued the work of the previous expert group meeting by expanding on its recommendations for legislation on violence against women.
