Publication Released by the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund on Contemporary Forms of Slavery

The United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund on Contemporary Forms of Slavery released a publication recently discussing their work, and providing an overview of contemporary forms of slavery as well as the legal instruments that exist to combat this problem. The fund, established in 1991, awards both project grants and travel grants to organizations assisting victims of slavery. Recently funded projects include the Kiota Womens Health and Development Organization in Tanzania, where the grant helped to provide humanitarian assistance and rehabilitation to 200 victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking. In addition, the Trois Quarts du Monde in Guatemala received a grant to support a rehabilitation centre for over 100 sexually and physically abused street children in Guatemala City. Also, the International Forum of Solidarity in Bosnia and Herzegovina was given a grant that helped to provide shelter as well as medical and mental health care to over 100 victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking.
