At a recent meeting, the Gender Is My Agenda Campaign (GIMAC), a coalition of 400 African civil society organizations, has called for the urgent ratification and implementation of the African Union Convention on the Ending of Violence Against Women and Girls (AU-CEVAWG). GIMAC emphasized that eliminating gender-based violence is crucial for achieving justice and reparations for Africans and people of African descent. The coalition highlighted that, in 2023, Africa recorded the highest global rate of intimate partner and family-related murders, with 21,700 women killed. GIMAC insists that addressing such violence is essential for realizing the African Union's Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
