Australia: Domestic Violence Advocate Named Australian of the Year

Australia has chosen a prominent advocate for victims of domestic violence as the 2015 Australian of the Year. The advocate, Rosie Batty, campaigns for increased funding and more effective services for victims of domestic and family violence. Women's organizations in Australia hope Ms. Batty’s high-profile award will pressure the Australian state and federal governments to “overhaul” their approach to combating violence against women and children.
