This upcoming December 2025 will mark the entry into force of Convention 156 of the International Labour Organization (ILO) into Colombian law, a major success towards gender equality in the workforce. Convention 156 requires governments to adopt specific measures to ensure gender inequality at work, with the aim to facilitate a balance between work and family to allow women to still be able to focus on their professional development. While this reform does provide legal bases against discrimination and pushing forward co-responsibilities in home duties, it still requires complementary action to provide quality services for an appropriate balance between family life and work.
