Sexual violence against women and girls has been increasing in eastern Congo, where armed conflict has existed for nearly three decades and led to some four million displaced persons.  The NGO Doctors Without Borders reports a doubling in the number of sexual violence victims it is treating in displacement camps around Goma. That organization works with the United Nations and others to provide medical services, psychological treatment, latrines, etc. to survivors of sexual violence in the region.
