Online misogyny has escalated into a global crisis, with women and girls facing constant harassment and abuse across digital platforms, according to findings presented at the United Nations General Assembly.
At the HeForShe Summit on September 23,2025, UN Women and its partners warned that younger generations are particularly alarmed by rising sexist rhetoric, with 80% of Gen Z and 76% of Millennials citing it as a major concern. UN Women chief Sima Bahous called for bold, collective action, stressing the importance of engaging men and boys to counter harmful digital behavior.
The Summit launched the 2025 HeForShe Alliance Impact Report, which underscores how alliance members have reached nearly 40 million people, primarily women and girls–mostly through campaigns preventing gender-based violence, expanding digital access to support services, promoting STEM education, and advancing economic empowerment.
