On Oct. 24, thousands of women in Iceland, including its prime minister, participated in a one-day strike against wage discrimination and gender-based violence against women, particularly regarding the plight of immigrant women.  It was the seventh such strike since the first in Oct. 1975.  Interestingly, the World Economic Forum ranks Iceland as the best nation in the world for gender equality, having closed 91.2% of 'the gender gap."
