Italy: Mass Protests and Legislation Address Violence Against Women
Saturday, November 25, 2023 2:10 PM

Tens of thousands of protesters marched in cities across Italy on Nov. 25, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.  Many were motivated by the recent murder of a 22-year-old university student, allegedly by her former boyfriend who resented the ending of their relationship. The Italian Interior Ministry reports so far this year, across Italy 55 women have been killed allegedly by a partner or former partner. Earlier this week, the Italian parliament unanimously approved several new measures to address violence against women, including a new information campaign in schools.
