The Kenyan government declared gender-based violence as the country’s top security priority after the death of one hundred women in the past four months. Since September 2023, around 7,107 cases of sexual and gender-based violence have been recorded. Most of these perpetrators are men or intimate partners that had previous contact with these murdered women and girls. In response to this crisis, human rights groups have organized demonstrations in support for victims and reform, as gender-based violence numbers continue to worsen.
