Lithuania: Experts Report Progress in Combating Human Trafficking, But Improvements Needed

The Council of Europe’s Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Humans (GRETA) published its first report on Lithuania’s efforts to combat human trafficking. GRETA’s evaluation report noted several positive developments in Lithuania, including the adoption of anti-trafficking legislation and the improved coordination of law enforcement in combating human trafficking. However, the report urges Lithuania to adopt a specific anti-trafficking action plan, to enhance national and municipal cooperation, and to increase victim access to compensation. Additionally, the report recommends that Lithuania focus more on vulnerable groups, victim identification, and improving the investigation and prosecution of human trafficking cases.
