Weeks after powerful earthquakes devastated central Myanmar, women and girls remain especially vulnerable amid ongoing aftershocks, displacement, and destroyed health infrastructure. Per approximate estimations, over 3,700 people have died, thousands remain injured, and frequent tremors have deepened fear and worsened living conditions, with many families forced to sleep outside. The disaster has severely disrupted access to maternal care, reproductive health services, and protection from gender-based violence, especially since over 10 million women had already been marginalized due to such needs prior to the earthquakes. Furthermore, despite aid reaching over 240,000 people, humanitarian groups stress that far more funding and access are urgently needed to support the most affected and curb a potential increase in gender-based violence occurences.
