The European Institute of Gender Equality has released a report based on new data on female genital mutilation (FGM) in the European Union (EU) and Croatia. The report aims to provide policy makers and other activists with reliable data that is comparable among states. The report also provides recommendations on how to protect and support potential victims and society from harmful practices.

The report, among other suggestions, proposes to establish a network of experts and key actors on gender-based violence and advocates for multi-agency cooperation to meet the need for specialized services for victims and to ensure the exchange of good practices. One of the key recommendations is to criminalize FGM in the EU.
