According to a recent survey, seventy-eight percent of Nigerians believe that domestic violence is increasing in Nigeria. Nearly all respondents who said that domestic violence is increasing also said that violence against women is prevalent at all levels of Nigerian society. Many attributed the perceived rise in domestic violence to current economic hardships. More than fifty percent of respondents said they were victims of domestic violence or knew someone who had experience violence. However, few respondents reported or sought any help for domestic violence.
