Rwanda: Women Released for Past Abortion Convictions Speak Out

In recent years, Rwanda has responded to human rights complaints and liberalized its abortion laws, and it has pardoned and released hundreds of jailed women previously convicted for having abortions. Despite these positive steps, women say there is continued shame and stigma in Rwandan society around both being a victim of sexual violence and seeking an abortion.
