The Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities has launched the Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) training program intended to strengthen gender-inclusive planning and budgeting strategies across the government. GBA+ will guide employees to understand how facets such as gender, disability and age determine accessibility to certain national resources, allowing them to apply an intersectional lens when drafting government policies and programs.
The GBA+ is part of a larger and coordinated approach to enhancing gender mainstreaming in the government's decision-making and public programming. As South Africa grapples with issues regarding gender-based violence and perpetual inequalities, this measure will allow for greater inclusivity of the population traditionally overlooked in public policy.
