Hotel Amba Yaalu, situated in central Sri Lanka, has made waves as the country’s first hotel run and led entirely by women. In an industry where men take approximately 90% of hotel jobs, this unique establishment offers women the opportunity to take on every role within tourism, from security officers to chefs, challenging traditional gender roles. Catalyzed by the aftermath of the pandemic and political instability, this trailblazing project promotes gender equality and showcases the capabilities of women in a male-dominated industry while receiving widespread acclaim for its positive impact on both the local workforce and visitors.
