The US Government has introduced sanctions against leaders of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in Sudan for its recent human rights abuses, including violence against women who are among the estimated 5 million displaced persons fleeing violence. The sanctions come in the wake of the UN's August 2023 open hearing on sexual violence against women and girls and other atrocities during this year's civil strife.
