The Geneva Advocacy Notes is a newsletter designed to report on events at the United Nations that are of importance to women. The “Notes” are published by the Committee on the Status of Women in Geneva. The Committee is dedicated to ensuring the implementation of the 1995 Beijing Platform for Action. The June – October 2007 edition of the Geneva Advocacy Notes began by commenting on the positive steps taken this year by the United Nations including Resolution A5/1 on Institution Building. The Resolution calls for a gender prospective to be integrated into the Universal Periodic Review and other mandates of special procedures.
A section of the newsletter illustrated the importance of highlighting women’s rights in human rights council mechanisms. The “Notes” summarized the conclusions of the panel on gender integration organized within the formal calendar of the human rights council. The newsletter concluded with resolutions and decisions adopted by the human rights council affecting gender and women’s rights.
