Following protests against the detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, 190 protesters, most of them being students, were released from the Silivri prison. In interviews, several detainees described abusive treatment and harsh circumstances, including beatings, poor prison conditions, and verbal harassment. A number of female detainees also reported gender-based mistreatment, ranging from verbal to physical assault. While Turkey’s Justice Ministry denies any allegations of such misconduct, former detainees vow to keep advocating for those still behind bars and call for justice and reform.
