Ukraine’s Parliament voted to ratify The Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, better known as the Istanbul Convention. This vote marks a historic day for women’s rights advocates, women’s rights, and survivors of violence against women in Ukraine. Advocates have pushed for ratification since the Convention opened for signature in 2011. Ratification is especially important in the context of Europe-wide pushback against the Convention and sexual violence in the war in Ukraine.
