Ukraine: OSCE Says Urgent Action Necessary to Combat Violence Against Women

During a three-day assessment mission to Kyiv, Ukraine, Ambassador Miroslava Beham, Organization for Co-operation and Security in Europe (OSCE) Senior Gender Advisor, recommended urgent action to enhance the ability of Ukraine to address violence against women. The current conflict in Ukraine has led to an increase in domestic violence incidents and allegations of sexual violence, particularly among internally displaced women. Beham stressed the importance of decreasing gender-based violence as a way to increase Ukraine’s political stability and offered the support of OSCE in tackling issues of gender-based violence.
